Utrecht

Children with brain tumors have surgery at the Princess Máxima Center for Pediatric Oncology in Utrecht, the national center for children's cancer care. All highly complex care and research for children with cancer in the Netherlands is concentrated there.

Rarely, in cases of medical emergency where a child cannot safely be moved, surgery may take place at another hospital.

Children who need proton therapy after surgery receive it at the UMCG Proton Therapy Center in Groningen. It is the only center in the Netherlands allowed to treat children with proton therapy, and works closely with the Princess Máxima Center. Each family has a dedicated case manager as their main contact, and families who live far away can stay in family apartments within walking distance of the center.
