A special session on the surgical aspects of the syndrome brought the Society's neurosurgeons together to agree on practical steps to reduce its risk. Their recommendations became the Society's consensus statement for pediatric neurosurgeons, published in 2025.

More than 50 participants met online to discuss the nosology, scoring, imaging, surgery, and rehabilitation of the syndrome. The special interest groups set goals for the years ahead, including comparing and validating scoring systems, drafting the surgical consensus statement, validating imaging-based risk scores, and reviewing the experiences of patients and families.

Three days of keynote lectures, abstract presentations, and discussions led by the special interest groups. The program covered terminology, the experience of patients and families, the cerebellum's role in thinking and behavior, and new work in neuroradiology, neurosurgery, symptom scoring, ataxia, and rehabilitation. Each special interest group left with research priorities for the next global meeting.

Three days of presentations, group discussions, and interactive workshops. Delegates formed three working groups to lead the Society's research: refining the definition of the syndrome and how its symptoms are scored; understanding its causes and predicting which children are at risk; and developing rehabilitation approaches.

The Society's first meeting, a year after its founding, set out its goals: a consistent definition of the syndrome, a practical tool for recording its symptoms, and closer work with surgeons. The definition that followed is now the international standard.
